Dom zu St. Jakob (Innsbruck)

The Dom zu St. Jakob, or Innsbruck Cathedral, is defined by its twin bell towers and large, green-copper onion domes that rise above the city's old town. While a church has stood on this site since at least the late twelfth century, the current structure was completed in seventeen twenty-four after a major earthquake destroyed its predecessor. To fund the massive project, the city introduced special tobacco taxes and invested in a brewery, tapping into the local thirst for beer to pay for the building's intricate facade of Hötting breccia and marble.
