Innbrücke

The Innbrücke is the concrete bridge spanning eighty-one meters across the Inn River. It connects the historic Old Town with the Mariahilf-St. Nikolaus district, a crossing point that has been documented in this location as early as the twelfth century. The bridge gave the city its name, and its stylized image appears on the municipal coat of arms. For centuries, this was the only way for merchants to transport goods across the river between the German lands and Italy, allowing the city to collect tolls that built its early wealth.
