The Ivan Vazov National Theatre is recognizable by its grand, neoclassical façade, defined by six towering Corinthian columns that support a pediment depicting Apollo and the Muses. As the oldest and most authoritative stage in Bulgaria, the building occupies an elegant position facing the City Garden in the center of Sofia. Viennese architects Hermann Helmer and Ferdinand Fellner designed the structure, which officially opened in nineteen oh seven to host the country's leading theatre troupe.
