The Roman Amphitheatre of Serdica

The Roman Amphitheatre of Serdica sits in the heart of modern Sofia, identifiable by the ancient, elliptical stone walls integrated directly into the foundation of a hotel and surrounding buildings. Once the largest structure of its kind in the eastern Roman Empire, it measured over sixty meters in length and hosted gladiator fights and wild animal combat for spectators of the ancient city.
