The Fairmont Hotel Vancouver is defined by its prominent, steep-pitched copper roof, now weathered to a distinctive green patina, and a façade adorned with ornate stone gargoyles. Built in the Châteauesque style, the building stands seventeen floors high as a reminder of Canada’s era of grand railway hotels. Its construction began in nineteen twenty-eight, but the Great Depression halted work for five years, leaving the steel frame to sit unfinished until federal funding allowed for its completion in nineteen thirty-nine.
