The Penthouse Nightclub at one thousand nineteen Seymour Street is marked by a boxy sign and neon green lettering. Opened in nineteen forty-seven by the Filippone brothers—Joe, Ross, Mickey, and Jimmy—the club began as a late-night venue for entertainers and socialites long before it gained its reputation as a strip club. The family, who arrived in Vancouver from Italy in the nineteen twenties, originally operated a taxi service and a boxing gym on the property.
