Fort Royal

Fort Royal sits at the highest point of Lokrum Island, rising ninety-six meters above the Adriatic Sea. You can identify it by its thick stone walls and circular design, which crown the peak of the island and overlook the harbor of Dubrovnik. French soldiers began construction of this military fortification in eighteen oh six during their occupation of the region, intending it to serve as a defensive position against naval threats to the coast.
