Orlando's Column stands in the center of Luža Square, a stone monument carved into the figure of a medieval knight. He holds a sword and shield, facing forward as a symbol of the city's sovereignty and freedom. Sculpted in fourteen eighteen by Bonino di Milano and Antun Dubrovčanin, the five-meter-tall statue represents the hero Roland, known in Italy as Orlando.
