Jesuit Stairs

The Jesuit Stairs are a sweeping stone staircase that rises in broad, limestone flights from the busy market stalls of Gundulić Square to the plateau of Bošković Square. Completed in seventeen thirty-eight, these one hundred thirty-six steps serve as a theatrical link between the everyday life of the city streets and the hilltop Jesuit complex, which includes the Church of St. Ignatius and the former college.
