Ethnographic Museum “Rupe”

The Ethnographic Museum in Dubrovnik occupies a three-story stone building known as Rupe, a name that translates to the holes in Croatian. This name comes from the fifteen deep silos carved directly into the bedrock on the ground floor. Built in fifteen ninety by the Republic of Ragusa, the structure functioned as a state-run granary, designed to keep wheat and barley dry and safe during times of siege or economic disruption.
