Franciscan Church and Monastery

The Franciscan Church and Monastery is defined by its ornate, Gothic-style stone portal that overlooks the beginning of the Placa. Sculpted in fourteen ninety-eight by the brothers Leonard and Petar Petrović, the portal is the only part of the original church to survive the catastrophic earthquake of sixteen sixty-seven. It features a nearly life-sized Pietà in its central lunette, flanked by figures of Saint Jerome and Saint John the Baptist.
