Fort Revelin

Fort Revelin sits just outside the eastern wall of the Old Town, identifiable by its massive, irregular quadrilateral shape and a sharp, outward-projecting northern corner. This stone stronghold was built as a detached fortress to guard the Ploče Gate and the harbor against potential invaders. The initial structure dates to fourteen sixty-three, a time when the Republic of Ragusa scrambled to fortify its borders following the fall of Constantinople.
