Fortress Imperial sits as a square, stone silhouette atop Mount Srđ, four hundred fifteen meters above the city of Dubrovnik. French engineers began constructing this military outpost in eighteen hundred six, completing it in eighteen hundred twelve during the Napoleonic occupation to control the heights above the former Republic of Ragusa. Its design features thick walls and angular bastions, intended to command artillery angles over the harbor and the surrounding coastal terrain.
