Church and Convent of St. Francis

The Church and Convent of St. Francis sits on the western edge of the Riva waterfront, anchored by a simple, narrow facade that stands out against the city's ancient stone backdrop. Built upon the early Christian burial site of Saint Felix, a martyr from the era of the Roman Emperor Diocletian, the complex has undergone several cycles of demolition and rebuilding throughout its history. While its foundations date to the thirteenth century, much of the current structure reflects a major reconstruction completed at the turn of the twentieth century.
