The Church of the Holy Cross in the Veli Varoš neighborhood is identifiable by the bulb-like cupola atop its baroque bell tower. This stone building on Križeva Street replaced an earlier structure that stood about one hundred fifty meters away. In sixteen fifty-seven, residents demolished that original church to ensure it could not be captured by advancing Turkish forces and converted into an enemy tower.
