Istedgade & Dannebrogsgade

other

Istedgade is a one-kilometer-long street in Vesterbro, anchored by the dense, tenement-style apartment blocks that defined this working-class district for over a century. Known for its intense history and transformation, the street was named in memory of the eighteen-fifty Battle of Isted. While it began as a hub for butcher shops, shoemakers, and local taverns after the nearby cattle market moved here in eighteen-seventy-nine, it later became infamous as the center of Copenhagen’s red-light district.
