Place Raoul Follereau

Place Raoul Follereau is a wide pedestrian esplanade in the tenth arrondissement that sits slightly elevated above the quai de Valmy, overlooking the canal Saint-Martin. Created around nineteen eighty and renamed in nineteen eighty-four, the square takes its name from Raoul Follereau, a twentieth-century French journalist and philanthropist. Follereau is best remembered for his decades of advocacy for those affected by leprosy, a disease he viewed not only as a medical condition but as a profound source of social exclusion.
