The Amphithéâtre Jean Martin Charcot sits within the Pitié-Salpêtrière Hospital complex in the thirteenth arrondissement. This lecture hall is named for the nineteenth-century neurologist Jean-Martin Charcot, who established the clinic here in eighteen eighty-two. During his tenure, the amphitheater became a famous site where Charcot performed clinical demonstrations before an audience of students, journalists, and public figures.
