The southeastern corner of the thirteenth arrondissement is defined by the Paris Rive Gauche development, a massive transformation of former industrial rail and port lands into an ultra-modern urban district. Where once flour mills and storage halls stood to supply the city, a series of experimental housing projects now rise along the banks of the Seine. These buildings were conceived as a living laboratory for architects to test new materials and radical structural forms, meant to reconnect the older neighborhoods of the thirteenth with the riverfront.
