Porte d'Orléans de Paris

The Porte d’Orléans is marked by a wide, busy intersection where the avenues of the fourteenth arrondissement collide with the suburban edge of Paris. This site was once a gate in the mid-nineteenth-century Thiers wall, a massive defensive fortification that ringed the capital to control access and trade. While the walls were torn down after the First World War, the gate remained a primary southern entry point into the city.
