Lycée Camille Sée (Paris)

The Lycée Camille Sée is defined by its austere, Art Deco exterior, constructed from concrete and crushed pink granite mixed with fragments of marble. Inaugurated in nineteen thirty-five, the building occupies the former site of the Vaugirard gasworks, an industrial plot transformed during the nineteen thirties into a cohesive urban project that includes the neighboring Square Saint-Lambert. The school’s architect, François Le Cœur, faced a small, difficult site that necessitated a five-story main structure with three additional levels built below street grade.
