The Église Notre-Dame de Compassion is a small structure wedged between modern concrete and the flow of the city ring road. It features a Greek cross floor plan and neo-Byzantine exterior stonework. Queen Marie-Amélie commissioned the chapel in eighteen forty-two to mark the site where her son, Ferdinand-Philippe d'Orléans, the heir to the French throne, died following a carriage accident.
