Saint Sava Serbian Orthodox Cathedral (Paris)

religious

The Saint Sava Serbian Orthodox Cathedral is a gabled stone structure set on a quiet street in the eighteenth arrondissement. A stone bust of Saint Sava, the thirteenth-century archbishop who founded the Serbian Orthodox Church, is mounted on the tympanum above the entrance. While the building was constructed in nineteen oh six as a Protestant temple, the Serbian community began renting it for worship in nineteen sixty-two. By nineteen eighty-four, the congregation purchased the property and converted the interior, erasing the original biblical inscriptions to install a traditional iconostasis.
