Tomb of Stendhal

The tomb of the French writer Stendhal, born Marie-Henri Beyle, is located within the Montmartre Cemetery in the eighteenth arrondissement of Paris. It is a stone monument marking the resting place of one of the earliest and most influential practitioners of realism in literature. Stendhal died in eighteen forty-two, and his grave remains among the thousands of plots nestled in this cemetery, which was established in eighteen twenty-five on the site of a former gypsum quarry.
