The Canal Saint-Denis stretches six point six kilometers, connecting the Canal de l’Ourcq at the Bassin de la Villette to the river Seine. You can distinguish the waterway by its sequence of seven locks, which drop twenty-eight meters along the route. Napoleon Bonaparte ordered its construction in eighteen hundred and two to provide an efficient bypass for river traffic, allowing barges to avoid the crowded center of Paris.
