Launched in nineteen fifty-seven, the vessel served as a flagship for the Toulon submarine squadron, operating primarily in the Mediterranean Sea to monitor commercial shipping lanes. It carried a crew of forty and was engineered for stealth and maneuverability, spending over thirty-two thousand hours submerged during its twenty-four years of active service.
