Le Passe-Muraille

In the Place Marcel Aymé, a bronze figure appears to emerge directly from the stonework of a wall. The man is caught mid-stride, his body partially swallowed by the masonry, with only his head and limbs clearly visible as he struggles to pass through to the other side. This sculpture, created in nineteen eighty-nine by the actor and artist Jean Marais, honors the writer Marcel Aymé, who lived nearby in the Montmartre neighborhood.
