Théâtre de l'Atelier

The Théâtre de l'Atelier stands out on the Place Charles Dullin with its neoclassical facade and the distinctive cast-iron columns supporting its porch. Inaugurated on November twenty-third, eighteen twenty-two, it was built by Pierre-Jacques Seveste, a theater impresario who secured a royal privilege from King Louis the Eighteenth. In its earliest years, the building was known as the Théâtre Montmartre and served as a stage for students, earning the nickname Galère Seveste because it was constructed almost entirely of wood.
