Batignolles tunnel

The Batignolles tunnel began as a vital, three hundred twenty-one meter subterranean passage, allowing trains to reach the Gare Saint-Lazare from the northwest. First opened in eighteen thirty-seven, it eventually grew into four parallel brick galleries burrowing beneath the bustling Batignolles district. For decades, it remained a necessary bottleneck for rail traffic heading into the city.
