The building at twenty-eight Rue des Marchands is easily identified by the twelve stone-colored cariatides lining its first-floor balcony. Known as the Hôtel des Cariatides, this structure was built in the late eighteen thirties by the architect Auguste Virebent for his in-laws, the Miégeville family. It stands as a display of the architect's signature style, which combined eclectic and fanciful elements inspired by the Renaissance and the seventeenth century.
