Place de la Daurade is defined by its sweeping, unobstructed view of the Garonne River and the ancient stone arches of the Pont Neuf. It takes its name from the Latin word "deaurata," or covered in gold, which once described the lavish fifth-century mosaics inside the basilica that stands at the heart of the square.
