The Tour Larrey is a surviving fragment of the Roman defensive wall that once enclosed the city of Toulouse. This fortification system, built between thirty and forty of the common era during the reign of Emperor Tiberius, originally spanned three kilometers and featured roughly fifty stone and brick towers. The Tour Larrey itself is nestled beneath the modern surface of the city, with its ancient limestone foundations, river pebbles, and lime mortar still preserved within a cellar near the Place de Bologne.
