L'Ostal d'Occitania - La Maison de l'Occitanie

cultural

The L'Ostal d'Occitania, or House of Occitania, occupies a pair of historic residences once owned by two fifteenth and sixteenth-century municipal magistrates known as Capitouls. You can identify the site by its hidden inner courtyards and a distinct stone tower featuring defensive machicolations, all tucked behind an entrance on rue Malcousinat. These buildings are remnants of the era when Toulouse was governed by its own elected Capitouls, a system that managed the city from eleven forty-one until seventeen ninety.
