The Square Charles de Gaulle is defined by the Donjon du Capitole, a sturdy, square brick tower built in fifteen twenty-five. This building was originally constructed to securely house the city's municipal archives and gunpowder, serving as a bastion for the Capitouls, the magistrates who governed Toulouse. Its silhouette features four round corner towers and a nineteenth-century belfry designed by the architect Viollet-le-Duc. Today, the tower holds the local tourist office, standing as the primary landmark within this garden square.
