Library of Studies and Heritage

educational

The Library of Studies and Heritage is recognizable by the monumental Art Deco architecture of its facade and the impressive bronze doors that open onto rue de Périgord. Built between nineteen thirty-two and nineteen thirty-five by the city architect Jean Montariol, the building occupies the site of a former Carmelite convent. Before this library opened in March nineteen thirty-five, the city’s collections were housed in conditions described by the librarian in chief at the time as the most poorly accommodated in France.
