The Palais de la Préfecture, also known as the Palace of the Kings of Sardinia, is a substantial government building in the heart of Old Nice. You can identify it by its classical façade and its position near the Palais de Justice. Originally constructed in the early seventeenth century, the building served as the residence for the Dukes of Savoy whenever they visited Nice. As the Duchy of Savoy expanded into the Kingdom of Sardinia, this site became a formal royal palace, hosting monarchs and dignitaries for over two hundred years.
