The Église Saint-Jacques-le-Majeur, often called the Église du Gesù, catches the eye with a distinct blue and yellow façade. Tucked into the narrow streets of the Old Town, this seventeenth-century building began as the chapel for a Jesuit college. A wealthy merchant named Pons Ceva, acting on the advice of Saint Philip Neri, provided the funding to establish the college in sixteen hundred and three, and the church took shape shortly after as a statement of Baroque ambition.
