WDR Funkhaus

The WDR Funkhaus on Wallrafplatz is defined by its elegant, post-war modernist facade of travertine stone and curved interior lines. Built between nineteen forty-eight and nineteen fifty-two on the rubble of the destroyed Hotel Monopol, it served as a primary hub for public broadcasting during Germany's post-war reconstruction. Its design, by architect Peter Friedrich Schneider, intentionally moved away from the monumentalism of the previous era to embrace transparency and human scale.
