The GrooveStation on Katharinenstraße is recognizable by its origins as an alternative department store in a nineteenth-century building. When it opened in nineteen ninety-four, it functioned as a hub for the neighborhood where local residents and artists gathered around a public laundromat. While waiting for their laundry, people exchanged ideas and musical interests, eventually turning the shop space into a venue for live performances and club nights.
