Dresden-Neustadt Guardhouse "Blockhaus" (1732-37)

The Blockhaus, or Neustädter Wache, stands as a low, rectangular stone building at the foot of the Augustusbrücke. Designed by architect Zacharias Longuelune, construction began in seventeen thirty-two to serve as a guardhouse for the city. Although a wooden structure previously occupied the site and shared the nickname, the new stone building retained the name even after its completion in seventeen thirty-seven.
