Staudengarten

The Staudengarten sits along the Neustädter Elbufer, marked by its formal arrangement of perennials framed by thick hornbeam hedges. Developed between nineteen thirty-four and nineteen thirty-five under city garden director Heinrich Balke, the park was designed as a specialty garden for the nineteen thirty-six Reichsgartenschau. It occupies a stretch of the bank between the Sächsische Staatskanzlei and the Albertbrücke, serving as part of the Königsufer—a project meant to preserve the riverfront as a green space rather than allow the dense development found on the opposite side of the Elbe.
