The Church of San Salvatore de' Birecto is distinguished by a side superstructure that rises above the square, featuring a clock framed by Ionic-capital pilasters and a gabled belfry. Built in the tenth century, this chapel served as the official site for the investiture of the Dukes of the Maritime Republic of Amalfi. Its name, Birecto, refers to the ducal cap used during these coronation ceremonies.
