Piazza Umberto I

Piazza Umberto I is a compact urban courtyard defined by the dense, stacked houses of Atrani that cluster tightly around it, leaving only narrow passages that lead directly to the nearby beach. Originally designed as a protective space to shelter fishing boats from heavy storm surges, the square now acts as the primary meeting point for the village. It is easily recognized by the presence of the Church of San Salvatore de Birecto, which sits directly on the edge of the square.
