Shukkeien Garden

Shukkeien Garden is a landscape of miniature mountains, valleys, and rivers gathered around a central pond. Its name translates to shrunken-scenery garden, a style created in sixteen twenty by the tea master Ueda Soko for the local lord, Asano Nagaakira. While originally a private villa for the Asano family, the grounds occupy an area roughly the size of a baseball stadium. You can distinguish it by the loop path that winds around the pond, connecting fourteen small islands that represent the islands of the Seto Inland Sea.
