Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum

The Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum is easily identified by its long, horizontal reinforced concrete structure, which rests on rows of exposed concrete pilotis that lift the main building above the ground. This deliberate design, created by architect Kenzō Tange and opened in nineteen fifty-five, leaves the space beneath the structure open to the public. It forms a central part of the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park, situated on land that was once the bustling Nakajima district before the atomic bombing on August sixth, nineteen forty-five.
