The Fukuromachi Elementary School Peace Museum is defined by the scorched, blackened walls of its former schoolhouse, which sit just four hundred sixty meters from the atomic bomb's hypocenter. When the bomb fell on August sixth, nineteen forty-five, the reinforced concrete building survived the blast, though nearly all the students and teachers inside perished.
