The Grote of Sint-Jacobskerk is identifiable by its hexagonal brick tower, which rises ninety-three meters above the center of The Hague and terminates in a distinct silhouette that stands apart from the square towers common elsewhere in the Netherlands. Built in stages between the fourteenth and sixteenth centuries, this structure served as a parish church for the counts of Holland and later became a site for royal ceremonies, including the baptisms and marriages of members of the House of Orange-Nassau.
