Panorama Mesdag is a cylindrical painting measuring fourteen meters high and about one hundred twenty meters in circumference. Housed in a purpose-built structure, the canvas surrounds a central observation gallery, creating an illusion for the viewer of standing atop a high sand dune. The scene depicts the seaside village of Scheveningen as it appeared in eighteen eighty, including the North Sea, the fishing fleet, and the surrounding dunes.
