The Zuydervelt hofje sits tucked between the Prinsegracht and Buitenom, marked by its origins as an early experiment in residential comfort. Built by Willem Fredrik Zuydervelt with financial support from his sister Cornelia and a local baron, the complex stands out for the amenities it offered its residents. While many traditional almshouses provided basic shelter, this site was among the first of its kind to feature a dedicated rainwater drainage system, indoor plumbing, and running water sourced from the dunes.
