Hofvijver

The Hofvijver is a rectangular lake in the heart of The Hague, easily identified by the historic Binnenhof complex and the Mauritshuis museum reflecting off its surface. Though its name translates to Court Pond, the body of water began as a natural dune lake. Count Floris the Fourth purchased the land beside it around twelve thirty to build a hunting residence. His son, William the Second, later expanded that site into the palace that became the seat of Dutch government.
